The old Public Switch Telephone Network (PSTN), the backbone of our traditional landlines, is being switched off by BT in 2027 . That's right, the familiar copper wire phone lines are making way for modern, digital technology .

What Does This Mean for You?

Essentially, your landline will transition to a digital service known as Digital Voice, which uses your broadband connection. This change is happening to improve the UK's phone network, offering better reliability and new features such as the ability to answer your landline calls via an iOS/Android app.

But What Do You Need to Do?

If you have an older landline phone or are running anything from your line that might not be compatible, you may need a new handset or adapter .

Broadband is Essential

Digital Voice relies on a stable broadband connection. If your broadband is unreliable, you might experience issues with your phone service .

Specialised Services

If you have an alarm system, telecare devices, CCTV, or payment terminals that rely on your landline, these devices may require updating to work with the new digital system, including your broadband.

Don't Leave It Until the Last Minute!

BT is rolling out the switch-off region by region, so you might be affected sooner than you think . AJM has already helped a number of customers make the transition to Digital Voice. We're here to ensure you have everything you need for a smooth transition.

This switch-off is a significant change, but with a little preparation, you can ensure a smooth transition to the digital age of telephony.

Can you go one step further?

Combining your move to Digital Voice with a broadband connection can save money by reducing your line rental costs. Where the infrastructure allows, this may also improve the quality of internet connection that you are receiving.
